Fresh air, silence, peace.
This 18th century cottage next to the ancient Lochpatrick Mill stands in its own lovely gardens on a quiet rural back road, yet within 10 minutes of Castle Douglas, the ‘Food Town’.
The house sleeps nine. Spacious, warm, well-equipped, book-lined, with an open fire, a small bowling green, a tennis court, and challenging coarse fishing – the house is a perfect holiday escape. All welcome.
The space
The whole house is available. It is spacious, warm, welcoming and well-equipped, creating a relaxed, informal atmosphere, with an open wood fire in the living/dining room.
Guest access
The gardens around the house are there for guests. There’s a stream at the bottom of the garden to explore. The hard tennis court and the small bowling green are there to be used. And guests are free to walk through the woods along the stream and up to The Wilderness, a glorious patch of quiet woodland and simple garden 10 minutes away on foot along the back road. It was first laid out in the 18th century, now has fresh plantings and looks out over the swans on the Black Loch, a quiet, shallow stretch of water where guests are welcome to pursue very rough coarse fishing for perch and pike.
